Fashion Tragedy
Two items have been haunting my to-do list for almost a year:
1. Resole all work shoes (about 12 pairs of heels, flats, slingbacks, peep-toed pumps, etc.).
2. Take crap to Goodwill.
In a fit of ambition, last week I put both the Goodwill bags and the bag of shoes to be repaired in my trunk.
Finally, Saturday, I made a pit stop at Goodwill, which I like supporting, and, yay tax write-off!, and. Ugh.
I don't know how (I was not the only person involved in the fateful drop-off), but somehow EVERY SINGLE PAIR of fancy-ish shoes I own is now being sold, at extremely reasonable prices, to Goodwill patrons across Southern California.
Including -- and this is the part I am most sad about -- a pair of super cute wedges from 1999 which have finally, JUST NOW become chic again.
Is it wrong that I cried a little when I realized what had happened? I'm trying to comfort myself that at least someone will profit from my 8 years of waiting for wedges to have a comeback. Just as long as they don't pair them with a REAL fashion tragedy that should never, EVER for the love of Coco Chanel, have been revived, the baby doll dress.
#$%^&*@! stupid Sienna Miller.
Stupid me.

Oooo. Nothing worse than getting rid of something just as it becomes fashionable again. But that baby doll pictured is kind of cute. Of course, it's not for everyone.

d'ya reckon we can blame Sienna for the smock top and leggings look as well cos that's working for everyone in my town...if you want to look like you're about to give birth.
Bad news about your shoes. Good excuse to go buy more though, woohoo!

Nooooo! It's not wrong that you cried a little. Heck, I'm crying a little for you right now.

OMG!!!! I saw it coming and kept hoping it wouldn't be so! That sucks...but now you have an excuse to go out and buy all new shoes (as if anyone needs an excuse).

I just died a little bit for you, Jen. Twelve pairs of shoes!? When you were being so good and responsible. I researched the price of resoling shoes, and this little service has gone up (since the one time I did it ten years ago) to about $40 per pair. With 12 pairs of shoes, that's $480. This might not buy you 12 new pairs, but I'm hoping the figure buys you a little guilt-free shopping. Poor Jen!

It happened to someone I knew in high school, too- her parents dropped off all of her summer clothes at the goodwill in the middle of a Minnesota winter.

Oh no! Can you try to find your wedges and buy them back?

A friend of mine accidentally left a brand-new Columbia winter jacket at the Goodwill which had been sold when he went back in 10 minutes later after realizing what had happened. :)
