Bunnies and Turnips
Santa Cruz, partial site of weekend retreat to/from bunnies and turnips.
First, my apologies. I try to write happy stuff, but it is like trying to squeeze blood from a turnip these days, and we all know what that is like! Oh, wait, we don't. Hm. Anyhoo, bunnies! Turnips!
I am GRUMPY. I have been grumpy for a couple months now. Glenn-Close-boiling-bunnies GRUMPY.
OK, I am exaggerating somewhat, but really, I am GRUMPY. See my chart. Also, see bunnies! and turnips! later on in this post.
WHY am I so grumpy? See "Inexpicable ennui: source unknown."
I'm not really able to put my finger on it, but here you go:
1) Can't figure out how to link text in the images from Excel spreadsheets I create. So you will never know about the time my father had heart surgery, I was Lone-Ranger'd, and 200 pages behind in Con Law.2) The bottom of my foot is bruised from walking the Mean Streets of SF. Can't believe I used to walk those hills all the time.
3) I was recently dissed by a date.
4) I took on a new, "prestigious" (pres-tee-gious for those of you who grew up like I did, pres-tih-jus for those of you who didn't) position on a law journal that involves an hour a day of being someone's Excel bitch and am having flashbacks of being someone's admin in NY. p.s. I am almost f--king THIRTY.
5) There are only three weeks left before finals. Hari-kari, anyone?
6) I still haven't sent out thank-you notes from Christmas. I am a horrible person.
At least I got out of town for the weekend. And got to spend it with Gloria, who has already posted a bizarre, embarassing video of me and this bunny:
I met our bunny (Gloria has her own) while having a SIX-course drink-a-toriam of dessert wines at The Hidden Vine. Yummy. I love me some port and muscat.
Then, I got to see Ursula, her husband Mike and debonair brother Carlos. At Santa Cruz' only (not exaggerating) non-dive bar, The Red. Go Banana Slugs!
And of course "turnip" was one of the words I tried to fool Gloria with during our road-trip home tournament of "fruits and vegetables" Hangman. To no avail. p.s., can you believe that girl tried to pull "pluot" on me. Pluot???? Who has heard of a pluot before?? Cheater.
Only. All this time away with good company? Just makes you wish things were less bunnies and turnips at home. Grump. Grump. Grump.

Not to oversimplify, but my guess is that a good 50% of the grumps are because it's sorta spring and you're in law school. I got that way in b-school. I was just DONE and there was no classy way to quit school and escape.
Not to mention that all that stuff in your chart isn't 'one and done', it's stuff that hangs around for longer than of us like.
Not that you asked, but sometimes I try to be the grumpiest person I can be, which sort of gets it all out of the way. Even if only for a few hours.

Um. I have heard of a pluot before. But then again my town celebrates with a festival devoted to Kumquats.

Woohoo law journals!
Posted by: Dagny at April 11, 2006 09:54 AM
We should go out drinking soon. That cures the grumps at least temporarily. And yay for being on a journal!!
Also, at first I read "I have an eye twitch" as "I have an eye patch" and I wondered when you became a pirate. :)
(I have also heard of a pluot. Sorry!)

What the heck is a pluot? Hi! Too lazy to even google! so sad.

Random ennui does Suck!
But, at least you did get to see Laurie whack the heck out of that guy in Paris recently. Please replay in your mind whenever you are feeling down. (though at this point the memory could still be associated with the stress of the situation, I guess. I just finally laughed about a SE Asia trip memory from last summer that was all stressful and grumpy-making at the time)
Laurie -- pluots are a cross-bred franken-fruit of a plum and an apricot. Next venture after square watermelons?

Okay, I've heard of a pluot too...even eaten them. They're delish! It's a cross between a plum and an apricot. (I like them, yet I HATE apricots.) They're sweeter than regular plums. I wonder if eating one would help with the grumps...

Firstly, another quality graph. Good work!
What image editor are you using? If you have one that has some mustard about it, you should be able to insert "hotspots"... however, if you dont have a powerful imaging tool, you can still tell an image it's a map with code. Here is a handy tutorial on how to do it:

Happy to provide further help through gmail.

3) I was recently dissed by a date.
=====
Well he (assumption) is an idiot. End of story. If you never date him again because of it, he'll work out what he's lost soon enough.

4) I took on a new, "prestigious" (pres-tee-gious for those of you who grew up like I did, pres-tih-jus for those of you who didn't) position on a law journal that involves an hour a day of being someone's Excel bitch and am having flashbacks of being someone's admin in NY. p.s. No suggestions here. Data entry will always be soul destroying to the nth degree.

5) There are only three weeks left before finals. Hari-kari, anyone?

Now's your time to shine. Or, alternatively, procrastinate. The link above should help with that.. but if you're anything like me, you probably don't need help.
Thanks for helping me procrastinate through work!

Posted by: dan at April 11, 2006 08:20 PM
substative due process is FFFFFUUNNNNNN...i just took a test on that in con law rights...so ya know, i can help you out if you need it

Pluot? Even a woman from Mississippi knows what that is. Yummy stuff.
Who cares, have a 3 Olives Cherry Vodka ( like cherry jolly ranchers) and you won't give a phuk what a pluot is. or frankly, any thing else that irritates you!
Carumba!!!!!

I think our drinking last night might have helped some with the ennui? Or, at least, when I get my funfun blood test, it's going to show extremely elevated alcohol levels. Oopsies.

Wenders, you are so right!
OK, apparently Laurie and I have been living under a rock where pluots are unheard of. Or perhaps Crystal, Gwen, Tami and CTK are just advanced fruit lovers.
Dagny, thanks!
Dan, I am so going to try that guide, thanks! Also, now I am VP of Nothing, but I like to keep my old nameplate around for vanity's sake. And so I can spend my time thinking about what I'd really like to be VP of. VP of Awesome Sticker Collections, or VP of Embarassing Myself and so on.
Penny, I can't believe you are taking that course by choice.
Gloria and Samantha_the_wonder_woman, you are so right -- the night out did help!
