I Love Paris in the Springtime

That's right! Come March Laurie and I will be in Paris! And, serendipty on our side, Gloria's trip will overlap!
It's been a long time I've looked forward to anything as much as this. I've dreamt about going to Paris since the first time I heard "Paris Sera Toujours Paris" by Maurice Chevalier in 10th grade French class.
There's a million things I want to see, but any particular recommendations, mes amis?

Don't skip the catacombs! They're sort of amazingly spooky and surreal. When I visited, my friend and I had sort of a "death day" and did the catacombs and Pere LaChaise on the same day.

Go to the Musee de la Mode et du Textile- it is teeny and there is a small charge, but it was a small price to pay for getting to gawk at fantastically shredded Yoji Yamamoto wedding dresses from an inch away! I think when you guys go the main exhibition will be menswear, which looks way more interesting than it sounds- http://www.ucad.fr/fr/02museemode/homme_pare/page01.html
Yay, I'm so excited for you! Eat a crepe for me, man!

Wine. Lots of wine. And maybe more wine.
Uh, other stuff that doesn't involve drinking. I don't really know. We're going to Au Gamin, btw. You have no choice. But that's food, and non-food activities..
We'll figure it out. I am so excited, I want next quarter to be over already, dammit.

not something to see, but to eat...pain au chocolat! (I have no idea if that's how you spell it) and coffee...it's the best, especially if enjoyed in a sidewalk cafe.

Congrats on the trip. I am starting to get a wee bit jealous of you and Gloria. Maybe my dad will give me another vacation for Christmas this year.

Centre Pompidou! It's fun to say, and fun to look at.

SO JEALOUS. I was there in March, 2003, and loved every second. I'm a junk junkie, so the flea market was the highlight of my trip. It was also my only time to myself, which might have added to the fact that I loved those few hours so much.

So many different cool things to see, do, smell and eat in Paris!
Loved St. Chapelle -- easy walking distance from Notre Dame.
Also, the Bois de Bologne is worth the trip. Check out the Paris Eyewitness guide - my fave series for any trip I take.
Bertillon's ice creams are well worth the ravings in all of the guidebooks.
MMMMMM!

Walk as much as you can! You can see so much more of the city that way. (Well that and I had a devil of a time trying to figure out the subway system.) Et oui, you MUST eat as much pain au chocolat as you can :D And bring me back some! Because the stuff we have here in the States just ain't the same. And even if you're afraid of heights (comme moi!) you also have to go all the way to the tippy tippy top of the Tour Eiffel. The view is just unbelievable.

I'll second recommending the catacombs. Rodin's museum is nice too. The Dali museum was a tad dissapointing. It's a fantastic city to just walk about in.

De-lurking again to say I second St. Chapelle. Not big in the tourist books, but I was speechless when I was there. And I also second/third pain au chocolat!! And of course, walking everywhere. Just taking it all in! I went to Paris in August, and I'm still wistful. I have a photoblog if you wanna see it: http://eurotour40.blogspot.com/

Sacre Cour. You can walk through this eclectic neighborhood, grab a chocolate crepe (better than pain au chocolat, to me) and then go up to the church. Kind of touristy, but definitely worth it!

Great to hear that Paris is on the horizon! I'm not one to normally toot my own horn on other's blogs, but I'll have some good ideas coming up in my Paris posts.

I'm with Brenda in Toronto, but would urge you to go to Sacre Couer right before sunset. The whole place is white or off-white stone, and it glows a beautiful pink at dusk. A lot of people will go up there then, with bottles of wine, and there's a nice atmosphere. Plus, you can go sit in on the evening services if you're so inclined (I like the singing--it's beautiful).
