Speaking of Exes, Part II
Another of my exes, Lucas, came to town on Tuesday. We went out at UC Santa Cruz, almost TEN YEARS AGO. How have I lived long enough to have an ex from TEN YEARS AGO? I dunno. Somehow, I have.
It was too much fun seeing Luke, who is on a grand tour of the West on his way back home to New Mexico. He's still the same dashing goofball I remembered. Same mannerisms, same smile, same jaunty little walk even.
We headed out to El Carmen for some cervezas and carnitas and catching up, and then he crashed on my couch. We stayed up way too late talking for me to stay awake through Real Estate Finance this morning. Not even talking really -- more like yelling (me from bed, he from couch) a constant exchange of: "Hey, do you remember when..." and "OMG, no way! But do you remember..." None of which is interesting to anyone but him and me, but wow, it was weird to suddenly re-experience memories you'd buried a decade later.
Anyhoo, isn't he the cutest? And, since he occasionally reads this blog, the answer is YES.

dude. the one girl i still really KNOW (i.e., talk to) from high school, we've now know each other since december 1982. more than 20 years. it's CRAZY. (FRIGHTENING)
you must be a very forgiving girl. at the current time, there is probably only ONE ex i would allow within 10 feet of me. :)
i agree tho - those kind of remember-when conversations can be soooo awesome and yet 90% of your friends who didn't know you then would just be like "huh? wha?" when you try to tell them the same stories. it's always worth having at least one old friend around. damn, after reading this, i'm going to have to make some phone calls just to reminisce... damn you sunday undy.

Now you have reminded me that I need to call a college roommate. I haven't seen her since leaving college but we've talked on the phone a few times since. Next month I have to go to a class for work in her area. I think I should catch up with her.
And the answer is yes.

I find it amazing that you can have these kinds of relationships. You have an ex from 10 years ago who comes to sleep on the couch - I have an ex from two and a half years ago, and I don't even know where she lives. (But neither do her old roommates, so I guess I shouldn't blame this one on myself...)

You have SO many cute ex-'s. Lemme guess, this one's an Aries?
I don't think I've seen what your new man looks like be he must be hot.

For some reason I take real comfort in not letting people float out of my life. Maybe I have a bit of Cancer in me like Dagny.
la.dauphine -- This one is actually an Aquarius, but many of my close friends are Aries, interesting. I don't have a new man. I am on a self-imposed man hiatus until January 1. So far, so good!

Was that the dude I met in SC? I believe the 'chafing' story was Luke's, yeah? If so, his hair is much shorter.
Hi! Commenting from work again!

I don't think this picture really does him justice. (And I'm not saying that just because he might be reading. I am not saying lots of other things because he might be reading.) If you're reading this, Luke, a big hello from Santa Cruz, and if it's not too late, you should add us onto your western tour, especially if you'll be doing any campus visits.
The best part about this reminiscing post is that by commenting today, I am contacting my best college friend. I know I just used best twice in one sentence, but how do you replace best, without going foreign or obscure?
It occurs to me (and thanks for the hint on this one Jen, though no one could argue Luke's good looks who has actually met him), that perhaps Allan reads your blog too, and may have taken offence at the less than flattering things I may have said about him. Sorry, Allan! I still think you're one of the smartest guys I've ever met. And you know your way around a sewing machine like nobody's business.
Lest this turn into a Jen's ex lovefest, I should add that I don't think you've found your match yet, Jen. But you have dated some smart, funny, good looking dudes.
PS you are the hottie in the above photo! look at you!

Stupid man hiatus. I don't know what you're talking about. Obviously haven't been getting you drunk enough.
El Carmen is a good place to take exes, I've decided. And one of the primary reasons isn't because they make margaritas that equal quick drunkenness. No, it's not that at all.

Isn't kittenwar the most fun?
And Gloria, it has to be some other reason. Speaking of margaritas...

OK so I was going to say the ex was a cutie but then I wasted WAY too much time on kittenwar and now he doesn't look so adorable.
Did anyone see the photo of the winningest kitten? Ooh - soooo cute it gives me goosebumps!

There is also http://puppywar.com
Not quite as cute as kittenwar in my opinion but still some cute ones out there.
